Keeping accounts

File format

Documents will be requested by email; you will have the choice to submit files directly via email to thethesisdoctoruk@gmail.com (up to 25MB) or using the secure WeTransfer file share server. (up to 2GB) We edit your work using Microsoft Word® using the ‘Track Changes’ function and encourage clients to submit documents in .DOC or .DOCX format.  If you have work in other file formats, please contact us.

Samples

A 'sample' is a small section of text by which prospective clients can assess the quality of our proofreading and editing. Clients can request these to  better understand how we communicate recommended changes. It is important to note that samples are for review purposes only; clients cannot cite or use them for academic reference or credit. Therefore, we do not feel it appropriate for samples to be freely available via our website. Please contact us and we will be happy to provide you an appropriate sample.

Timeframes

Once payment has cleared our account and we have received your files., the service timeframe starts on the next full working day. Timeframes are calculated as the total number of working days required, Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm UK time.

That said, we are aware of academic pressures and, should you require your work to be returned faster, please contact us. We will do our best to accommodate reasonable requests but will not compromise on the quality of editorial service provided. This service will levy an additional charge of not less than +25% over the standard fee.

Caution: Unscrupulous service providers offer Express Services at costs many times their standard fee with the promise of unrealistically fast delivery. It is not possible to provide a high quality edit of a full 100,000 word PhD thesis in 24 hours! Such companies use AI or send chapters to multiple editors. These practices are unethical and produce poor quality review. Take care choosing.

Ethics

We are frequently asked if universities and affiliated publishing houses allow students and academic authors to have their work proofread. The answer is yes. Proofreading and editing is encouraged. A fresh set of eyes can highlight and correct errors, particularly if you have been working on a piece of writing for a long time and have become over-familiar with the content.

We adhere strictly to the professional code of conduct for academic review as set by the UK's Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). We would always recommend that you choose a proof-reader or editor who is a member of CIEP. Further information can be found on our Academic Integrity page.

Queries

We return to you two versions of your text. One version shows all changes identified and made; the other is a clean version with all changes accepted. You many also receive a further comment sheet with additional detail, should we feel this necessary. If you have any queries about the corrections or comments to your document please contact us within 5 days of receipt and we will be happy to provide you clarification or alternative suggestion. Our goal is to ensure that you are completely satisfied.
